Developing skills and knowledge in animal training is our bread and butter!

You will develop a knowledge of the background research, exploring different learning theories and their application.

Not only that, but you must also develop skills in applying learning theories to teaching animals. This requires the development of mechanical training skills and the ability to apply these to teaching animals.

It is largely believed that anyone can teach animals and that an individual is born with some sort of natural talent. This couldn't be further from the truth. Teaching requires knowledge and skill that requires thousands of hours of practice.

Don't worry, you're in the right place to get started!

Courses: Learning Theory Foundations, Mechanical Skills Foundations Mechanical Skills Progression, Organising Classes & Sessions, Teaching Puppies

Once all that admin is done, you will be good to go. You will receive access to the course online area when you attend for the course seminar.

Mechanical Skills Foundations

The foundation mechanical skills for teaching animals are timing, criteria and ROR. These skills, and the associated knowledge, allows you to teach animals effectively and efficiently. This course will help you start on this journey...

Organising Classes & Training Sessions

Creating a learning environment that is conducive to multi-species learning is no mean-feat, but that's our job as animal trainers; we are teachers of both ends of the leash!

Teaching Puppies

Puppies are the most receptive to learning, and we, as animal trainers & teachers, can have the most positive impact when teaching puppies using appropriate techniques and approaches.

When? See the Course Calendar for the next Teaching Puppies course

Where? You will attend our centre for a two day seminar/workshop and then complete the study and assessment work on a homestudy basis

Who should do this course? Although puppy classes are often presented by beginner-trainers or non-trainers, we don't believe that to be appropriate. Given the importance of early education for puppies and their people, teachers & trainers must be highly skilled and knowledgeable in understanding the requirements of puppies and puppy owners.
We recommend this course for veterinary nurses who deliver puppy education, to trainers just starting out and to all who are responsible for educating puppies and their people.
To start this course, a student must demonstrate knowledge and skill equivalent to Canine Behaviour Foundations course level, at the very least.
